Blog discussion Topic Aug 19 2014

Please think about these topics. Will we talk about one of them? Will be talk about both? Who can tell!

1) Cost of University Education vs. Work Experience Benefits
- Did you work when you were in university? Would you have had the time? How many hours could you have worked?
- Do you think that people who go to university should be able to concentrate on classes, or should they be gaining job experience at the same time?
- Which is more valuable, work experience or job experience?
- Aurora Hares, a 25-year-old science student at the University of Manitoba, says she wants to pursue a veterinary medicine degree after she graduates, but wonders how she’ll manage the costs. (CBC) Do you think that university should only be for people who can afford it, like it was in the past?

2) Medicating Prisoners – safety of prisoners vs. safety of the prison staff
- In a prison environment, whose safety is more important, the prisoners or the prison staff?
- If a prisoner is acting in a way that is a danger to themselves or to others, how should they be managed?
- Is it a prisons job to help prisoners deal with past trauma (terrible experiences) and help them, or is it to contain them?
- What is your opinion of using medication to control the behavior or to sedate (make tired) prisoners? What if the medication used has possible serious side effects?
- If prisoners develop a drug addiction when in prison (from prescribed drugs), is it the governments job to help them get off the drug before being let out of jail?

- What is your opinion of testing medication of prisoners?
